What should I know before I walk along the King’s Little Road?
The Caminito del Rey has been recognized for some time as a very powerful emerging destination, which generates a great attraction for the thousands of tourists who every day are on the coasts of Andalusia, both from the Costa del Sol and many other parts move daily people wanting to see the famous gorge.
In this post we want you to know before you go the most important points to get there.
What is king’s Caminito?
Without a doubt, one of the things that attracts the most attention of the caminito is that it is a work of engineering made between nature, and although at all times we know that we are before the work of the human being, what is most impactful is being able to walk between nature and the richness of p endemic to the plants that are born of the rock.
How to get to Caminito del Rey?
The first thing you should know is that El Caminito del Rey is located in the municipality of Ardales.
When people want to go somewhere nothing can stop them, and although the arrival by public transport is complicated, we tell you the ways we have to get to the Chorro.
From Malaga by train, we have two options:
- Medium Distance train from Malaga Maria Zambrano Station and we can move to the CHORRO station, this train stops in Cártama, Slate, Alora, Las Mellizas and the Chorro. And the turn the same. The worst thing is that this train is one one way and another back, departing Malaga at 10 o’clock and returning from Chorro to Malaga at 18h. This train station is in the south, so to reach the north access where the entrance to the walkway is you will have to take the Shuttle which costs 1.55 euros.
- Train to Alora, there is possibility to take a train to this village from where walking one kilometer you reach the Chorro station. In the same way you will have to take the Shuttle to be able to reach the entrance that is in the north access.
From any city you can reach by road:
For example, from Granada you can take the A92 to Antequera and from there take the A384 road to the plains and then the signs to the dam, and Caminito del Rey.
The important thing is that you remember that the caminito is located in the municipality of Ardales but not in Ardales itself, so the indications should go towards the Jet Dam.
Our excursions with transport from Granada and Malaga:
We have guided tours in the Caminito del Rey, with departures from Malaga y from Granada. If you are in Malaga our tour leaves from the Hotel Vincci Posada del Patio, we take you to the meeting point in the Café Bar el Kiosko and back to Malaga. And the same thing but starting from Granada, with the meeting point in Plaza Mariana Pineda and back to the same place.
When you book the tour with us and the transport you will enjoy advantages at the entrance, since this tour allows you to enter the Caminito without large queues.
You can also go on your own and do the guided tour with the tickets without queues in the caminito and in group, this possibility allows you to know all the ins and outs and history of the Caminito del Rey, from its origins and curiosities.
If you decide to do our guided tour we will meet at the side of the Café Bar el Kiosko, where one of our guides will be waiting for you, and from there we will access the North Access about 20 minutes from this meeting place.
Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes and water, and of course, sun protection:
Although it is a cool place because of the amount of water and vegetation that is all over the tour, it is still a walk of about 2 hours, so it is convenient to prepare yourself to walk, in addition to the great heat that makes in Andalusia in summer and the sun.
It is recommended that you charge the backpacks with a lot of water and that you put on sun protection.
You also need a helmet, but don’t worry because they give it to you in the same Caminito and is ideal for your own safety.
Accesses and rules of the road:
It is very important if you are going to the path that you know that people with reduced mobility may have difficulty doing the whole route, as well as attendance is limited, and although there are trained people and staff of the path itself, the people with heart problems, breathing problems or children not used to walking (children under 8 years of age are prohibited from entering), as well as elderly or overweight people, they may encounter a problem in the realization of this route and its evacuation, at worst cases are very complicated.
Under no circumstances are pets allowed, selfie sticks, umbrellas etc, so avoiding wearing them is a hit.
When you know this place you will realize that we do not exaggerate in the measures of safety and caution, and if we fulfill what we propose this walk will be unforgettable and so, we wait for you and for any query do not hesitate to ask us or leave us a Comment.
A hug and we keep walking…
