The Cathedral of Seville was built to demonstrate the wealth of the city, as it had become an important shopping center in the years after the Reconquest in 1248.
In 1401, the city leaders decided to build a new cathedral to replace the great mosque that served as a cathedral until then and the amazing cathedral that you see today was built, officially known as the Cathedral of St. Mary of the See.
