The Patios of Cordoba are the maximum expression of the culture and tradition of Cordoba, they were declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2012.
These courtyards are located inside of the private houses that are located in the historic centre of the city. The origin of the original structure of these houses is found in the house from Roman times, which was later remodeled in Islamic times and has survived to this day.
After the Industrial Revolution, with the massive arrival in the capital of people who previously lived in the fields or farms on the outskirts of the city, the neighbors are forced to share the different spaces of the house, becoming an example of coexistence, generosity and solidarity.
They begin to decorate with a wide variety of plants, filling each space with beautiful flowers and turning the patio into wonderful gardens. Each house, each patio, has a story to tell us, that of the families that inhabit it and those of the families that lived there for centuries.
